Came home, showered, got a call from the first apartment saying they’ll rent it to me for $800 a month.  I am trying very hard to not be terribly excited about this until I sign the lease and it’s 100% for sure, but it’s hard.  I’m excited.  :)  After I got that call, I went to see another apartment, which made the decision a little harder:  I really like the location (right on 1st street!), but the other place is much nicer.  Hoping to seal the deal on Monday.

Drove down to see K, picking up wine and Chinese food on the way.  We ate and played pac man, and then hiked two miles to the top of a nearby ridge to watch the moon rise.  K brought along the wine and some cheese, and we were alone on the peak.  It would have been amazing, and for the most part was, until K started talking about past girlfriends and how easy it is to seduce women.  I didn’t even know how to respond to that, so I defensively started talking about other guys.  Terrible idea, I realize, but my lack of wits in the moment meant that the alternative was to sit there and let my ego take the bruising while I wondered how long it’ll be until he cheats on me.  I don’t think he noticed the weirdness.  I have to think of an appropriate response for the next time it happens.

Back at his place, we played Trivial Pursuit until midnight, which I won (by a lot).  We tried to go into the city to check out a museum, but traffic on the freeway was backed up about a mile before the toll booth, so we didn’t even try.  Played Trivial Pursuit again instead, which I won again.  I usually win the games we play, except Monopoly and PacMan.  I suck at PacMan.  Monopoly is just luck.

I’m rambling.  I meant to do some unit planning today, but instead I made chocolate meringue cookies, that really aren’t too bad, despite my ineptitude at fancy cooking (“beat egg whites until stiff and quite glossy, but not dry” = ehh?).  Watched about eight episodes of The Office.

I’m in a lousy mood.  Someday I’ll try and write more entertaining entries, rather than all this whining and recording of mundane day to day events.  Someday.

I write this drivel because I’m still mad at T, and she was the one to listen to my inane relationship stories.  I miss her, but I’m really pretty tired of this cycle of not talking to me for months at a time.

This was supposed to be a happy post.  Yay sunflowers.  :)

I have to move.  I need to be out of my house in about three and a half weeks, but I’d like to be out a lot sooner than that due to school starting.  And apartment hunting SUCKS.

I teach in one of the worst school districts in this part of the state.  My salary is ranked at the lowest for similar jobs in the area.  In short, I cannot find a decent studio or one bedroom apartment on my budget (and my budget is even $250 per month higher than what I pay now).

I found a nice place.  Beautiful, actually.  I was a little worried about the complex, but the neighborhood itself is a great community, and it was within walking distance of downtown and a couple of parks.  Very exciting.  So I applied, paid for a credit check, and put down a $600 deposit.  THEN, the lady calls me that same night to tell me that oh, the rent is actually $300 per month higher than what I signed for.  BULL.  SHIT.  So this morning, I printed off THREE separate advertisements from the internet, advertising the apartment I want for the rent I want.  I walked in, placed the printouts on the desk, and very politely demanded to know why I had been misled.

The problem is, the lady at the desk is new, and so is the regional manager.  Hence, I will get a call in a couple of days that will be very apologetic, but it was just a simple mistake and there’s nothing they can do for me.  I wouldn’t be so frustrated, except I really can’t find anything else half as nice for that price range.  (Well, I found one place – that was rented about an hour after I viewed it.  It was kind of weird, though – no closets.)

I am really frustrated.  I need someone to vent to.  Sometimes I feel like K doesn’t really engage when I’m talking to him, doesn’t help me talk things out.  That is also frustrating.  Scrabble’s in Alaska.  Frustrating.  I don’t have anything to do today and no one to do it with.  FRUSTRATING.

so, I am going to eat leftover Indian food and watch TV shows online.  fuuuuck, I really wanted that apartment.

(503):  Looks like we could get to hawaii for nine days over spring break for 550 on alaska.  These airline fare rules are ridiculous.

I haven’t told anyone.  I won’t tell anyone until I find out whether or not I’m accepted.  Then it’s a private oh well, or it’s… “hey… I’m moving to Malta…”

Going forward – goals for July:

• spend less money
• read
• eat better

Progress so far:

• June spending was out of control.  July will be similar, I think, because of the daily trips back and forth to class (gas + bridge toll every day).  I just need to avoid unnecessary shopping / eating out, I think.
• Started “On the Road”.  I’m liking it okay, I guess.  My problem is that I start books that are literature quality, things I will be proud to say that I read, instead of reading books that I would actually enjoy.  The books I would actually enjoy, however, are usually a:  at a middle school reading level, b:  written by Mercedes Lackey, or c:  both.  Ehh.
• Haa.  This goal stems from a desire to be physically attractive, and THAT desire stems from the men in my life (K and scrabble).  I want to be the most attractive girl K knows, so that he doesn’t have cause to regret giving up his single lifestyle of seducing beautiful women.  This is perhaps shallow / insecure, but better than the alternative of letting my appearance go because I’m in a stable relationship.  But minutes after coming to this conclusion, I wandered into the kitchen looking for something to eat.  I’m totally not commited to this goal.  I want to look better, but I LOVE FOOD.  love it.  ugh.

A side note:  I started taking ballroom dance classes.  I am enjoying it immensely, despite the fact it feels a little awkward to go alone.  I think K would come if I asked seriously, but I learn quickly when it comes to dancing, and I don’t want him to be uncomfortable if he’s not very good at it.  Anyway.  I really really like it, enough to justify the expense.
